The Book of Roads and Kingdoms

Great read from Richard Fidler as always. Thoroughly recommend reading this if you have read any of his other works. Complements “Ghost Empire” (also by Richard Fidler) very well as this is a telling of medieval history from the perspective of the Abassid Caliphate. Whereas, Ghost Empire discusses the same period of history from the persepctive of the Byzantine Empire.

Also discusses more recent history, delving into the pillaging of the Silk Road towns of the Taklamakan Desert at the dawn of the 20th century.
